Your Medigap Open Enrollment Period

Your six-month Medicare Supplement (Medigap) Open Enrollment Period starts the first month you are both 65 or older and enrolled in Medicare Part B. During those six months, a company can't use your health to deny you a Medicare Supplement policy or charge you more for it. After that window, outside of guaranteed-issue situations, companies may ask health questions.

Steps most people take

  1. Check your Part A and Part B start dates. If you are still working with employer coverage, your timing may be different. Medicare.gov and Social Security can confirm your dates.
  2. Compare Plan G and Plan N. Benefits are standardized by federal law; premiums differ by company. See Plan G vs. Plan N.
  3. Look at prescription coverage. A Medicare Supplement does not cover prescriptions, so most people pair it with a Part D plan.
  4. If a supplement premium doesn't fit your budget, we can also review Medicare Advantage plans I offer.

Already have a supplement? Oklahoma's birthday rule may let you change plans each year.
